Penguin Sea Kayak Trip

Simon's Town

Activity Description

One of the most unique places in the world – a penguin colony in suburban Cape Town! And the best way to see it is from the water. The trip leaves from Simon’s Town Waterfront and we paddle past the Naval Harbour and out to Boulder’s Beach to see the penguins. If the time and tide is right we may stop on a beach for a swimming break and will generally be able to get a close up look at penguins on the rocks nearby.

The daily scheduled trip leaves at 8.30am summer season (9.00am winter season). High season generally also has an 11am trip and often an afternoon trip as well. Click on your chosen date above to check.

We paddle every day of the year, weather permitting – not just the summer. The winter months are also wonderful for paddling because winter has more calm windless days than summer and on those days it is absolutely beautiful. Plus there is always a chance of seeing whales.

Kids under 10 are usually too small to paddle but if the the parent is strong and there is no wind then younger children may be accommodated at our discretion.

Customer Reviews

Great morning Kayaking if not a little cold. Would definitely recommend. - Frank Healey

Great fun. Thanks for all the organising. Interesting to learn about the ocean and the animals. Together with just the right amount of excercise made comfortable by the fun chatter and beautiful scenery. Thank you - Sheelagh Bailey

We had a fabulous time, Simons Town harbour is beautiful and with the Navy ships in the harbour it was quite a sight. It is certainly a great workout. Both guides were fun and energetic, quite a few dry jokes but that worked for us. We were lucky enough to have seen 3 Whales one which swam under us and another that surfaced a few meters away from us, it was amazing to witness that. The group that we kayaked with were also fun. In terms of value, we definitely thought that for R350 we got more value than expected even if we did not see the whales. Priced right, challenging enough and exciting enough, we will be back and a must do for everyone. - Charlene Fick

Incredible fun kayaking, up close with penguins and seals. Great morning, thanks a lot!! - Lori Johnston

It was the best. Guides were great and gave us a great tutorial. - Kaitlyn
